Checking What AI Tells You
AI can sound very confident — but it can also get things wrong. Learning to check AI answers is a super important skill.
AI can make things up
This might sound strange, but AI sometimes confidently says things that are completely false. Scientists call this hallucination. The AI is not lying on purpose — it just produces what sounds like a good answer based on patterns, even when it does not have the right information.
How to check an AI answer
- Does it seem right? Trust your instincts. If something sounds odd or too surprising, investigate further.
- Search for it. Type the key fact into a search engine and see if websites you trust agree.
- Look for a source. For important things, find where the information originally came from — a book, a scientist, an official website.
- Ask a trusted adult. For school work or anything important, check with a teacher or parent.
A good rule
For fun stuff and exploring ideas, AI is great — just enjoy it! For homework, reports, or anything you are going to share or act on, always check the important facts.
Remember
Being smart about AI is not about distrusting it — it is about knowing when to check and when it is fine not to. The same way you would not believe everything a friend tells you without sometimes checking for yourself!
