Staying Safe with AI

AI tools can be super fun and useful — but there are some important things to know about staying safe when you use them.

Keep your personal information private

Do not tell AI chatbots your full name, your home address, your school, or any passwords. You do not know exactly who reads conversations with AI tools, so it is best to keep personal details to yourself.

Not everything AI says is true

We learned this already — but it is worth repeating! If an AI tells you something that worries you or seems scary, check with a trusted adult before you believe it.

AI cannot replace real people

AI can be fun to chat with, but it is not a real friend and it does not actually care about you. If you are feeling sad, worried, or upset about something, talk to a real person — a parent, friend, teacher, or counsellor.

Think before you share

Some AI tools let you create images, stories, or other content. Before you share AI-created stuff online, think about whether it is kind, appropriate, and whether the people in it have given permission.

Ask a grown-up

If you find an AI tool you want to try, it is always a good idea to ask a parent or teacher first. Some AI tools are designed for adults, not kids.
